Its worth a visit
A morning at Tanji Beach 22/03/13 (Highlights).
26/03/2013 12:49Very noticeable this morning not an Osprey in sight. The whole beach had an end of season look about it somehow.
However what a surprise in the shallows around the fishing fleet.28 Greater White Pelicans of all ages in groups of 5/6 mainly and gradually moving out and taking off to the East.Great chance for pictures. Also a party of 163 Pink Backed Pelicans came over briefly but continued South.Bar tailed Godwits and Turnstones in only a handfull of numbers but giving great chance for pictures especially the bar Tails.Only one Commom Sandpiper on the inner lagoon but a good flock of 87 Cattle Egrets waiting for the tide to come.
A count of the Tern numbers some 285 Caspian Terns,73 Royal Terns,c300 Grey headed gulls,c220 Slender Billed gulls.A high percentage of immature Gulls and a interesting mix of the Greater and Lesser Black backed gulls of wwhich some detailed analysis later. On the beach no flava or alba wagtails but 63 Sanderling,85 Turnstone,5 Whimbrel but only 4 Bar Tailed Godwits.2 Spurr Winged Plover.
Bought a load of great fish from the adjoining fish market for just a couple of quid.Cant wait to get stuck into the cooking,
