Its worth a visit
Back in the field at last
23/01/2019 18:05After several weeks out of commision with first a very painful back problem followed almost immediately with a severe eye infection it was great to be back birding my patch this morning though my vision is still not 100% perfect it is good enough to look through my bins and get a very good image.
Its great to find Widgeon Ducks back on the River Calder around the Saville Town area of Dewsbury with 25 birds present.All the surrounding lagoons in the area where frozen this morning so tye river held plenty of Duck including 15 Goldeneye (7 males) and some 140 plus Teal.
2 Barn Owls are hunting early evenings in upper Pildacre Chickenleye and a Common Buzzard was perched in Hawthornes just above Kerries Food Factory.
Around 148 Pied Wagtails where feeding on the filter beds on Dewsbury Sewage Works this morning with 5 Grey Wagtails
3 Water rails where feeding in the open in lower Pildacre this morning and Gull totals on the sewage works stand at around 650/700 Black Headed with 4 Lesser Black back Gulls and 3 Herring Gulls.
Small birds appear to be in very short supply at the moment with feeders staying almost full for 3 or 4 days at a time.14 Robins near Kerries,5 Blue Tits and 6 Great Tits,3 Reed Buntings,4 Bullfinch and 12 Long Tailed Tits visited the feeders this morning and a Little Owl was on Mill Bank Thornhill at 09:30.
