Water Rails return to our Reserve at Kerries Foods Copse.
03/11/2011 15:55After much needed clearence work on the Naturec Reserve at Kerries Foods copse at Osset t is good to report that there are now 2 Water Rails bvery much making their prescence felt on the Reserve.
Most vocal of the two birds is calling just behind the main bird feeder area,This area now seems to be attracting the majority of the small birds on the reserve with some 8 Great tits,10 Blue Tits,6 Chaffinch and this morning 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers(1 adult pair and a bird in immature pluimage.Also it is god to see Willow Tit coming to the feeders yeterday.
Nearby the numbers of Pied Wagtails gathering on the filter beds continues to increase with around 185 birds on the beds at 09:00 hours quickly dispersing by 10:30 hours.
No signs of any long staying Chiff Chaffs so far this late Autumn but regular parties of Redpoll flying South over the wetlands with a party of 10 birds recorded yesterday.
Reports of Roe Deer sightings continue to circulate with a male Deer drinking on the banks of the Calder next to the Willow Plantation 2 days ago early morning.
