Wild Geese make their presence heard in the Valley.

Yesterday morning at around 08:10 a flock (consisting of several skeins) of around 520 Pink Footed Geese flew in a Westerly direction over north Ossett in several v formations moving slowly Westerly.Often Pink Footed geese are first located by their call a very distinctive wink winky can be heard from a long distance away(see picture gallery)

this morning a smaller flock of some 210 Pink Footed geese again moving slowly Westerly above Hostingley lane Thornhill Dewsbury again their calls heard a couple of minutes before the became visible.

1 little Ringed Plover on Dewsbury sewage Works.Also 2 Green Sandpiper and 2 Common Snipe. 3 new broods of Moorhen(making 7 broods this year)No sign of Cuckoos which appear to have moved on. 2 Oyster Catchers on filter beds.

4 Wigeon feeding on river bank near new road bridge on Dewsbury Sewage Works.A Green Sandpiper is on the river bank near Hotworks Mill.Otherwise as yesterday.Very few Pied Wagtails due to maintenance work being carried out on the Filter beds.2 Kingfishers on the calder between Healy Road and Hotworks Mill.6 Snipe on the Sewage works and a party of 6 Reed Buntings in the largest of the Phragmitese beds.A single Kestrel was hovering on the works.
